Encoding Problem

Hello! Macword 2008 doesn't properly recognize the encoding of an rtf
file I have and it is not displayed correctly. The encoding is cp1251.
Of all mac text processors only NeoOffice and Mellel open this file
correctly. Since I really want to have only one word processor on my
system (10.5.2), namely MS Word, do you have any suggestions how I can
handle the problem.

As I understand it this is a Windows-based encoding which is now "obsolete",
so I doubt you'll find much for Mac. TextEdit doesn't even have it I its
hidden list of encodings. A bit out of my realm so I don't know if this will
be helpful or not:

Thanks for your suggestion. But I don't think it is an obsolete
encoding. It is present in TextEdit as Cyrillic (Windows). But
TextEdit cannot display the document properly even when selecting the
appropriate encoding from the drop-down list in the Preferences window.
