Encrypted Files Help

I reloaded my PC I still have my old user ID # but all my
encrypted files are unaccesible, please help me.

I'm assuming you are using XP's encryption functionality, rather than
some 3rd party encryption tool (which I prefer).

I have no experience in this, and I don't use NTFS's file encryption.

Reading your question made me remember that this is one of the
"gottchas" which is one more reason to be very careful using this
encryption method.

From Page 237 of O'Reilly's "XP in a Nutshell" ...

"If you encrypt some or all of your files on your drive and your hard
disk crashes or you encouter some other problem that requires Windows to
be reinstalled, you may not be able to access your previously encrypted
files (assuming they are still entact). You can avoid this by using the
/r parameter to generate a "recovery agent key", a cryptographic key
that can be used to unlock files in the event of an emergency. You
should be able to use this key to subesquently gain access to your
encrypted files when necessary. For more information, go to Start ->
Help and Support and search for "cryptography"."
