Encryption

I encrypted a large folder in my documents and backed up the folder on an
external hd. I've since re-installed my os and office suite and now I can not
turn off the encrypting setting. Help

If you don't have a backup copy of the original encryption key or a recovery certificate,
you won't be able to access your encrypted files. Reinstalling your O/S won't work
either since the security ID will be different.

Appears I've lost over 100 docs stored in this folder. No other way around
this?????

Encryption is frequently referred to as the delayed recycle bin. If the
certificate was not saved and no Recovery agent is created, the data is
inaccessible. Please see Encryption in Windows Help. Granted there
should be a much bigger warning about the data Recovery side of the issue.
