End key no longer goes to end of selection

Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Intel

When I hold down SHIFT and hit an arrow key then END Excel used to go to the end of the contiguous selection for a quick copy/paste/del, etc.

Now the only direction it appears to travel is to the RIGHT whether that be to the end of a selection or all the way to the last column in the spreadsheet. It will NOT select up or down or left like it used to... Only to the right of the current cell. Extremely frustrating as I do this dozens of times per day.

I've used Butler and Quickeys to solve most of my Excel2008 problems (which are significant) but I'm not sure what to do about this one...

Is anyone else struggling w/ this issue? Or am I just doing something wrong?

From XL08 Help ("Excel Keyboard Shortcuts"):

Extend the selection by one cell SHIFT+arrow key

Extend the selection to the last CONTROL+SHIFT+arrow key
nonblank cell in the same column
or row as the active cell

Extend the selection to the last CONTROL+SHIFT+END
cell used on the sheet (lower-
right corner)

That's the same as in XL04, and AFAICR, it hasn't changed since XL01.

I don't remember END having a default action in XL (except in an
Autofilter or autocomplete list), though it certainly could have. I
remapped it for my own purposes using Tools/Customize Keyboard...

Hello -

With all due respect I think your recollection is a bit tangled :)

The sequence you're referring to [I believe] is:

END followed by Shift+Arrow(U/D/L/R)

That works fine for me here, but I agree with John that there are more
expedient ways to accomplish the same thing, Shift+(Control or
Command)+Arrow being one of them... Especially on a laptop/condensed
keyboard because you don't have to involve the fn key to invoke End.

Yes, you're correct. I'm a former PC-based Excel user and I'd already shut down Excel when I typed this message. You've solved me problem. Excel is my #1 app and now that I've got this functioning conversion from PC to Mac is nearly complete. (I need to figure out why the "ENTER" key doesn't act like the "RETURN" key and drop me down a row when entering data. I'll start a new thread for this query...) Thanks ---
