Endnote 7 for mac

Gary Flynn

I can't seem to use endnote with word 2004 for mac. I had to manually
install cite while you write and endnote appeared in the word tools menu
but nothing seems tto work.
Does anyone know if this is a current fault

Hi Gary,

You are correct. EndNote version 7 does not work with Office 2004. I've
heard that EndNote version 8 is under development and will work with office
2004. I haven't heard when the new version will be ready, but I hope it's in
time for the fall semester.

I just got off the phone with a Rep from Thomson ISI in California (I
was ordering a number of copies for our school). He said that Version
8 for the Mac will be ready in September, and will include Office 2004
compatibility. Let's keep fingers crossed that they hit that deadline.

According to one of the Endnote websites, version 8 for Windows will be
available this week, but version 8 for the Mac will not be available until the
Fall. Exactly when in the Fall is left open.

Can anyone here explain what Microsoft changed in their "plug-in" format
that might be preventing the "City While You Write" Endnote 7 plug-ins from
working with Word 2004?

I din't know why, but I know that they made a few modifications in VBA
support for Office 2004. Nevertheless, all other third party developers
managed to update their plug-ins in no time for Office 2004... I suspect
the EndNote marketting folks decided to only support it in EN 8 to make
sure people had a good reason to buy the new version when it comes out
:-(

No doubt just in time for Mac OS 10.4 to be released and Endnote once again
to become inoperable on the Mac... A pox on ISI. :-{

Those of us who were on the Beta Test for Word 2004 are currently hiding
while you good folks find stuff we didn't...

But one of them shouted over the fence to me that the move from QuickDraw to
ATSUI in Office 2004 might have broken this and many other add-ins. Even
though the move was well-publicised by Microsoft and betas were available
more than a year ago...

I would hesitate to endorse any evil speculation that tis might be a
Marketing move to give us all a compelling reason to buy the next version.
They wouldn't do that, now would they?

Cheers

It wouldn't be the first time :-< If I quite remember, they did it with
the Pubmed update as well not so long ago :-<
