ENDnote 8

I am having trouble activating Endnote and I was wondering if you knew
of any tricks with it.

I have endnote 8.0.0 on a MAC osx version 10.3.8 with Microsoft
Word2004 version11.1

I have the EndNote 8 CWYW Commands.dot and EndNote 8 CWYW Word 2004 in
the Word startup file but they don't get the endnote toolbar or
dropdown menu.

Huh. Works here for me.

Go to Tools | Templates and Add-ins in Word. Are the endnote files listed?
If not listed, click on Add and try adding them. If listed, are they
checked?

When you say Word startup folder, you mean harddrive/applications/ms office
2004/office/startup/word, right? That's the exact path?

By the way, you can open EndNote and copy and paste the citations while
writing the doc, even without the toolbar/menu. You are only desperate if
you need to format the citations and submit something right now, or very
soon. And even in that case, you can use the Scan RTF function in EndNote.

PS. Be sure you have restarted Word since putting the files in the startup
folder.

Try reinstalling EndNote 8 - it works for us with older version of
EndNote and Word.

Be careful though because you can specify alternate Startup folders in
the Word prefs. Make sure the plug-ins are indeed in the default startup
folder location (if you haven't touched any of these settings) or in the
startup folder specified in the prefs (I got tricked by that once :) ).

Yep, I bet that's the answer. And EndNote's directions for manual
installation don't take that into account.

So look in Word | Preferences, File Locations, and make sure the the
filepath set for Startup is where you have the files. Or if it's blank, you
should be fine, as that means it's using the default location.

Yeah, that's a huge mistake IMVHO.
