EndNote 9. Tools won't install.

Amanda.L.Petersen

I'm wondering if anyone has had the same problems I have with
installing the CWYW tools from EndNote 9 on Word 2004. I've followed
all of the help instructions and the FAQs on the website. Does anyone
have any suggestions?

thanks.

I haven't tried to install EndNote 9, but *maybe* we can help here....

What have you done? What did you want to happen? What happened instead?
What does "won't install" mean?

Give links to websites you followed, or post Help text as necessary, so that
we have a clear picture of what's going on with your machine.

I have got the same problems.
I followed the procedures described for these problems in the Endnote
Help-section:
manually added the required files to the start-up file in Office (Word
2004):

Endnote 9 CWYW commands.dot and Endnote 9 CWYW Word 2004

Nothing happened in the Tools menu.

Un-installed Endnote and re-installed Endnote again because I read
somewhere (sorry forgot where) that installing a new version of Office
might provoke the problem.
Finally when opening Word for the umpteenth time to see whether Endnote
finally appaered under Tools, I got the very strange possibility to
open the Endnote9CWYW.doc (under recent documents). When I opened this
one the Tools menu did show Endnote, but upon trying to use it the
programme went bezirk. Well I call it a night (hope I did not damage
anything by this latest action, ignoring warning about corrupt macros
and so on). I hope anyone can understand what the problem is from this
description.

Many thanks in advance! BW, MMSK

From within EndNote you can manually trigger the re-installation of the
tools (EndNote menu>Customizer..."), but I suspect the problem lies
elsewhere.
I've had that on my Mac as well. No matter what, EndNote would fail to
detect my Office folder and the add-ons would never be actually
installed.

Ijust performed a manual install and copied the add-ons for Word in the
proper add-on folder.

The problem with installing a new version of Office is that the add-ons
for Office X and 2004 are different.
Installing the new version of Office can also result in deleting the
add-ons if you're not careful.
The easy way to go then is simply to re-copy the proper version of the
add-on to the Word startup folder (/Applications/Microsoft Office
2004/Office/Startup/Word by default).

You'll need both "EndNote 9 CWYW Word 2004" and
"EndNote 9 CWYW Commands.dot".

Thanks for the information.
I installed the adds-on manually - did not do the trick, I am afraid.
Your answer did make me wonder whether I properly disinstalled my older
Office software - perhaps that is the problem.
Best wishes, MMSK

Then there might be something in your preferneces preventing the add-on
from launching at all :-\

You should check the Word preferences>File location to make sure the
Startup folder for Word hasn't been changed,
