endnote/footnote font

Although I set my endnotes to a font of 12, it's not happening. When I
print them out, they're more like 8 or 10. The style is endnote text which
has a font of 10 (but it's much tinier than 10 in the main text).

I want to print them out and doublecheck against my sources, but they're
just too tiny to read!

TIA for any help ... Lobo

There is an Endnote Reference style (for the numbers in main text or in
note) and an Endnote Text style (for the text). The best way to set your
endnotes to 12pt is to modify the Endnote Text style to be 12pt (see Help on
to Modify a Style).

How did you change the font size?

If the text is very small, it's possible that the Endnote Reference style
(which is superscript) has been applied instead of Endnote Text. Or that
Endnote Text has become formatted as superscript. Or that the superscript
formatting has somehow carried over from the endnote reference to the text.

hmmm.... they are in Endnote Text style. I selected all the endnotes and
changed the font up in the toolbar to 16 ... they were then a little easier
to read, but they certainly weren't as large as the usual 16 font.

Double check the definition of the Endnote Text style. Suzanne offered a few
possibilities for what might have happened to it, and it really sounds as
though they may be in superscript format, which shrinks text in addition to
raising it. Pre Word 2002, use the Format Style dialog to see the full
description--in the Styles task pane, hover the mouse over the style (I
guess).

If you are in Word 2002 or after, temporarily enabling "keep track of
formatting" in Tools | Options, Edit might let you see what additional
formatting is applied to these notes, but that's not my version, so I'm not
sure.

Please confirm what version you are in.

I'm in Word 2000.

I think you're right about the superscript format. Definition of Endnote
Text style is "Normal +" and the definition of Endnote Reference is "Default
Paragraph Font + Superscript."

But here's another weird thing: If I have the cursor in the endnote text,
the style box in the toolbar (is that the task pane?) says it's Endnote
Text. If I select the text of the endnote, the style box changes to Endnote
Reference.

TIA again!

Hi Lobo,

Weird... Sounds like the "Endnote Reference" style (a character style) has
been applied on top of the "Endnote Text" style (a paragraph style).

I'm afraid you will have to fix it by hand: Select the text, then use
Ctrl+Spacebar. Take care to keep the endnote references (numbers) in the
"Endnote Reference" style.

I can't imagine how it happened... You got the document from someone else?

Greetings,
Klaus
