Endnote numbering and duplication

S

SB

I cut an endnote reference number and moved it to another
place in the paragraph. Now, Word ('97) lists the
endnote twice. When I click on the duplicated number in
the endnote section, it brings me back to the place in
the paragraph where I originally cut the reference
number. When I place my mouse over this area, it still
shows the endnote text even though the endnote has been
cut. How do I get rid of this if I don't have a
reference number to delete? Thanks!

Personally, I think the whole endnote feature sucks anyway. What I find
works far better is to put endnotes in a numbered list at the end of the
document, and cross-reference them using automatic cross references. That
gives you much more flexibility than endnotes, for example the option to use
the same note more than once.

You can use cross-references to use an endnote number more than once even
with automatic endnotes.

You can indeed, but that way you end up with a somewhat bizarre mixture of
endnotes and cross-reference fields. Or am I missing something?

I'm not sure I see the problem. The cross-references update just like the
endnote references if you add/remove notes.
