Endnote renumbering problem

Hi ....

I have a relatively long Word XP document that includes
endnotes. The numbering is fine until it reaches endnote
#8. Instead of going from #7 to #8, it jumps to #10. I
have gone through all the formatting options, and nothing
works. I even tried deleting that particular endnote and
creating a new one .... still jumps to #10.

Any suggestions on what to do?

If you have Track Changes enabled, endnote numbering may be inconsistent
until you have accepted all the changes. Otherwise, it's possible endnotes
have been deleted improperly (the correct way is to delete the reference in
the document body), leaving the numbers "active."
