The EndNote plug-in depends on VBA--there is no VBA in Office
2008--therefore, EndNote will not work in Word 2008. Keep using Word
2004 for a while--Or, you should be able to insert unformatted citation
fields in a Word 2008 file (via drag and drop from EN to Word, not via
the toolbar), then go to Word 2004 or use the Scan RTF file function in
EN to format the citations and generate bibliography. I've not tested
that option, but it ought to work, I think.

Official word from MS: they are in talks with Thomson to get a solution
in place.

My suspicion--it won't be soon.

I can confirm that dragging placeholders from EndNote X1 into Word and then formatting the citations using Word v.X works just fine.

Thanks very much for confirming this--I've already passed it along to
one person.

I am doctoral student using Endnote X. I have upgraded to Office 2008 from Office 2004, and now I can't get Endnote to show up in the toolbar. Any advice, or am I unable to finish a 90,000 word Word document to submit for my final exam?

FWIW, MS and Endnote are working to resolve the compatibility issue.
However, it's not surprising that there might be incompatibilities that
need to be resolved whenever a new version of either software is updated.

It generally pays to look *before* you leap into early adoption,
especially when you have a significant investment in existing software.

On the plus side, you should be able to finish your thesis - just
reinstall Office 2004 if you deleted it. Word 04 and Word08 play fine
together.
