Endnotes Renumbering (Win XP/Office XP)

O

When I delete an endnote in a table, the subsequent end
notes do not renumber. When I put the cursor on the
deleted endnote location, the curson shows the
note "symbol" with a blank "comment" box. If I remove
some content before and after the note, the symbol
disappears, but I still can not get the endnotes to
renumber. If I add a new endnote, the numbering starts
from the old "ghost" endnote.

Just to make sure, you are deleting endnotes by deleting the reference
number in the main text, correct? And these endnotes were created via Insert
| Note, right?

If you have Track Changes on, notes will not renumber properly until you
have accepted or rejected all changes. Cross-references do not renumber
until you have updated fields.

If that doesn't help, post back, and mention office and windows versions, if
very often makes a difference.
