endnotes to footnotes

I am working with a doc that has endnotes but I would like to covert
them to footnotes. Is there a way to do this in Word 2004? Thanks in

In older versions, it was Insert | Footnotes, click on Options, click on
Convert, select convert endnotes to footnotes, OK out of two dialogs, then
Close the last dialog to prevent inserting a new note (or immediately delete
the new note). If the menu path changed in Word 2004, it should still be
under Insert | Footnote. Counter-intuitive, yes.

Dayo, I followed your instructions, and, lo and behold, there is a
convert button, but is greyed out. Any suggestions. Thanks again. John
