Enforcing styles using a catalog

Does anybody know how to make Word 2000 "force" styles
from the catalog you've attached to the document, to text
already formatted with the same styles?

e.g. If we have a <section1> style in our catalog that's
10 pt but the document already has a chunk of text styled
as <section1> and it's 12 pt, how do we force it to pick
up the 10 pt sizing from the catalog?

If we reapply the style to the text, it does pick up the
info from the catalog but doesn't seem to automatically do
it on its own.

Any suggestions?

With the document open, go to Tools, Templates & Addins, and check the
"Automatically update document styles" box. This will force the document to
dump all its own style deffinitions and rely on those of the template.

Beware though. If you want to send the document to somebody who doesn't have
the tmeplate, then make sure you clear the box and re-save the document
before sending.
