English XP OS with Japanese Office XP

I

IT Cowboy

When I load the Japenese Office application on an English XP laptop. The
fields all appear displayed in question marks. ("????????") I have the
japanese language installed on the tool bar. But also some of the tabs
display garbage characters like trade marks, %, squares and other characters.
Does anyone know what I might try to resolve this issue?

It sounds like perhaps the Windows MUI interface or the needed fonts for displaying the menu choices may not be installed but you
might want to check in Start=>Run=>Microsoft Office Tools in the Language Settings tool to see if Japanese is listed as an Installed
Office language.
