ENTER does not continue outline

Hi. I am using Microsoft Word 2003. I started an outline using the
Bullets and Numbering, Outline Numbered function, but when I press
ENTER at the end of a line, the outline funtion is turned off and it
does not continue the outline unless I click on the numbering icon
again. WHY????

If you are using the built-in heading styles, the following style for every
heading style is set to Normal.
