have seen other discussions regarding this and has been closed off. But i dont think the software writers of office 2008 for mac have dealt with this issue. simply the enter key on the full sized keyboard (mac type) with numerical keypad, needs to function in this manner.
push and it moves to the cell on the start of the next row of cells.
strangely the return key function has been given the opportunity to change its function in preferences but little old enter key does nothing but drop down to cell below and no option to set it up.
numerical data entry people use it....
please update your software to do this and dont dismiss it.

microsoft office 2003, 2007 excel can do it on pc platform, but you havent allowed for this??? strange

I won't speculate as to why the behavior is a bit different but there are a
few options if you need to enter data on a row-by-row basis.

One is to use the List Manager to establish a list range. That may or may
not work well for you depending on several subjective factors.

Another is to pre-select the range of cells you need to restrict navigation
within. Use either return key or Tab to navigate within the range [include
Shift to reverse direction]. IMHO, this is the fastest & most efficient
manner of entering data for anyone accustomed to 10-key entry.

You can also use the Data> Form feature to add to a list [among its many
other useful aspects].

BTW: You are not communicating with anyone from MS here. This is a
user-to-user newsgroup & we have nothing to do with how the software is
designed. Members of MacBU do peek in occasionally, but if you want your
comments to be read by someone from MS use Help> Send Feedback from the menu
of any Office app. They do review the comments & feature requests if they're
submitted in a proper manner.

Hi,

Actually there are many more important (read this many more, not more
important) things that need to be improved. For reasons unknown the Mac
Excel people just don't sync with the PC Excel people, and in most cases this
is to the detriment of the Mac Excel.

Consider VBA...

FYI I believe you can use pc keyboard with the Mac and this problem will go
away, although I can't verify that now.
