"ENTER NETWORK PASSWORD" HELP!

B

Blue Leader

I run XP/Home, Office 2003, Internet Excplorer. While I subscribe to Yahoo,
I have it feed my e-mail straight through to my Outlook 2003. I recently
started getting a small ENTER NETWORK PASSWORD dialogue box that has my
Yahoo SERVER and USER settings and asks for my PASSWORD. Don't know how it
started. I enter it, click "save my password to password list" (I'm the
only one who uses this home computer), but it keeps coming back, sometimes
making it impossible for me to work. Doesn't matter if I "x" out, enter the
word, save it to the list or simply exit wothout entering the information.
It goes away for a little bit (the time varies...sometimes rapid-fire, sometimes 10 - 30 mibnutes will go by and then it will start popping up) and keeps coming back, over
and over and over again. Please help me.

Hi Blue Leader,

SYMPTOMS
When you are not connected to the network and you press ESC to skip the
Windows logon, Outlook asks for a password even though it is configured to
automatically detect the connection state at startup. When you enter the
correct password, a message states that your authentication is invalid, and
you cannot work offline.
WORKAROUND
As a workaround, do not press ESC to skip the Windows logon.

Disabling Save Password Option in Dial-Up Networking-->
SUMMARY
When you dial a phonebook entry in Dial-Up Networking (DUN), you can use
the "Save Password" option so that your DUN password is cached and you will
not need to enter it on successive dial attempts. For security,
administrators may want to prevent users from caching passwords.

MORE INFORMATION
WARNING: Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious, system-wide
problems that may require you to reinstall Windows NT to correct them.
Microsoft cannot guarantee that any problems resulting from the use of
Registry Editor can be solved. Use this tool at your own risk.

To disable this password caching feature for DUN, perform the following
steps:
Start Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe) and select the following subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\
RasMan\Parameters

From the Edit menu, click Add Value, and type the following information:
Value Name: DisableSavePassword
Value Type: REG_DWORD
Value Data: 1

Now you will no longer have the "Save Password" option available to save
your Dial-Up Networking passwords. If you previously had passwords saved in
your phonebook entries, you will no longer be able to use them and you will
now need to enter a password every time you dial.
