Enter Network Password in Outlook 2002

I am using Outlook 2002 on a Dell laptop with Windows XP. I also have Norton
Internet Security 2005 installed. All have been recently updated (including
service pack 3 for Outlook or Office). My ISP is SBC Global.

I have three e-mail accounts that all use the same outgoing server. One
account uses a unique incoming server. Outlook is set to automatically send
and receive every 5 minutes.

Every 15 to 60 minutes, a window pops up with the title "Enter Network
Password" for the common POP server. The password is still in the box but
the "save this password" box is unchecked. I check the box and click OK and
sometimes the box pops up again once or twice more. I am never asked for
this information on the other incoming server that is unique for only one
account.

Everything is up-to-date and I have also followed the directions in article
KB290684,
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;290684&sd=RMVP, for
removing the user account information from the Protected Storage System
Provider subkey. This did not help the problem at all.

What should I do now? It is very annoying to have the box keep popping up.

I have developed the same annoying problem with Outlook 2003 and SBC/Yahoo is
also my ISP. I have called their tech support without a resolution. I was
told to uninstall Outlook to clear out all the files and settings then
reinstall. That didn't solve the problem. I then contacted HP tech support
and their suggestion was to delete and recreate my Outlook email profile.
That didn't work either. I was contemplating removing the user account info
from the Protected Storage System that you tried but was afraid of messing
with the registry. Glad to know that didn't work for you prior to me getting
into it.

This is a very sporatic problem. Someone suggested turning off the
automatic send/receive and see if the request for password went away. I
turned it off and it did go away and then when I turned it back on I could
not close the pop up window.. it would instantly reappear every time I
clicked Okay. I totally uninstalled MS Office and reinstalled it then
reinstalled my email account in Outlook 2003 and the problem is back to
sporatic rather than constant. I now have automatic send/receive off and
checking manually for email seems to be working most of the time without the
request for password popping up. I'm afraid to turn automatic checking back
on since I can now receive and send email most of the time.

One other tidbit of info is that I have Macafee Virus protection and
occasionally, mostly when setting up the email account and clicking the
"test" button, I'm getting a Macafee popup error message saying there is a
"protacol" error. It suggests checking
http://help.yahoo.com/help/us/sbc/dsl/mail/pop/pop-11.html which didn't help.
I click on okay and everything seems to go ahead and work. I don't know if
Mcafee has anything to do with this problem or not. I turned it off and it
didn't seem to have any effect.

Today I have also been having similar problems with SBC Yahoo POP
email with outlook 2002... but, it is intermittent - works most of the
time, but sometimes every few mins that dialog will display with a
login error (it says the server responded with "??????") but if I
retry it right away it works fine. From my experience this is a
problem on their (SBC Yahoo servers) end, not ours.

second-level support that it was my Norton Antivirus with 90%+
probablitity---so I removed but the problem stayed.

Question for MissTi and Jake(who left posts before) and anyone who responds
in the future: What is address of your POP server????
