Entering a serial number into Test Drive

Philip Mastman

I have a new Powerbook, which came with the Office Test Drive
installed. My previous computer had Office X installed, as an upgrade
from Office 98.

Is there a way that I can activate the Office Test Drive with my existing
serial number for Office X Upgrade, without doing a complete uninstall/
reinstall?

Thanks.

No - Test Drive doesn't include all the components of Office, nor
does it have the applicable updates.

Run Office Remover from the Value Pack of your installation CD.
Install Office and apply the 10.1.2, 10.1.4 and 10.1.5 updater from

MacTopia Downloads:
http://www.microsoft.com/mac/downloads.aspx

Then repair disk permissions:

OS 10.2.x/10.3.x: Run the Disk Utility (in the
../Applications/Utilities
folder). From the First Aid tab, click "Repair Disk Permissions".

OS 10.1.5: Run Repair Privileges (same folder, or download from
Apple:

The Office remove tool on the Office v.X CD has the same problem as the
Remove Test Drive tool in the Test Drive installation - it errors with
PBCatSearchSync -1304.

However, unlike the Test Drive removal tool, the full Installer CD tool
actually continues its search and removal of the Test Drive folder and
components.

I checked one of my other accounts to see if it removed all prefs, and it
did.
