Entering addresses to emails

B

Bob Griendling

Recently I reconfigured Outlook 2000 to try to recover the ability to get to
my accounts under "tools," functionality I lost when transferring my
settings to a new computer a couple of years back. I changed from a
Corporate Workgroup set up to an Internet Only set up. But in doing so, I
changed the look and feel -- and some functionality of the address book.

It used to be that when addressing emails, I could open the address book,
begin to type in a name and the name would come up highlighted. I would
then hit return and the name would be entered into the To: field. The name
would remain highlighted until I'd then type another name, find it and hit
return again. Once completed, I could hit return a second time and I'd
return to the email and would continue. I didn't need to use the mouse.

After reconfiguration, that ease of entering names has changed. After
entering the first name, if I type a second name, it appends those
characters to the previous name, rather than overwrites them. Even if I
highlight the name I just entered and type in a new name, it finds it but
when I hit return, Outlook returns me to the email I'm composing without the
second name.

Thus I must use my mouse to enter each subsequent name by clicking on the
To: or CC: or BCC: button.

Any idea how I regain the simpler functionality?

Thanks.

Bob

No. IMO actually uses Outlook Express' transports and address book. It isn't
even Outlook. You've changed to a different program which the rest of us
couldn't abandon fast enough.

Is there a way to return to what I had? I can't remember how I got to the
place where I could choose between Internet Only and Corporate Workgroup.

I spoke too soon.

I've got the same problem I had some time ago when I apparently switched to
Corporate Workgroup. I reviewed that thread but it doesn't tell me how it
was fixed.

Under Corporate Workgroup the "services" options under "Tools" doesn't work.
My address book now sorts the names by first name. When I try to go to
Address Book Tools I get a message that I don't have enough memory
resources. I've rebooted twice and the Task Manager shows I have 1.6 GB of
memory available.

The previous thread said I should set up a new profile. I did, but with
that one too, the "services" doesn't work. And once I set up a new profile,
I'm not sure how that fixes my problem and how I get all my contacts to show
up in my address book and how I get all my folders into the new profile.

I'm using Outlook 2000 SP-3 (9.0.0.6627).

How did you create the new profile and did you give it a unique name? How
did you connect the new profile to your data file? Have you tried repairing
your data file? Have you gone back and forth between modes more than once on
this partition? --
