Enterprise 2007

I have received my Enterprise 2007 CD. I have two CD drives available and am
running XP SP2. The CD is not recognized in either drive and Explorer cannot
see anything on the disk (gives messge "insert a disk in the drive").

Do I need a DVD drive to install this software?

Thanks

Makes sure the CD is "genuine" and not a copy:

It's genuine. It's got holograms all over it and they match the descriptions
at the link you provided. I also noted that on the disk itself is the "DVD"
initials. From this I infer that I do need a DVD drive. I did not notice
this before. I guess it's off to get a better drive.

Any idea what a basic DVD drive will cost?

Thanks for your assistance.

Which is rubbish. Of course the OP can install from a copied CD - it's the
LICENCE key which is the important bit, NOT the media.
As you well know.

Sorry for the delay, I couldn't get the reply function to work.

I have purchased a ( used 16x ) SONY DVD-ROM DDU1612 drive. XP found it
upon boot and installed drivers but disc is still not readable. Drive will
play mp3s and audio CDs but does not recognize either movie discs or the
Office disc.

I downloaded a utility from microsoft to check for installed decoders.
Several were listed but there was no indication whether any of these were
operational. It was noted that they are not compatible with media player 10
- does this matter?

Do I need to select one of these or does XP take care of this? Do I need to
now download a decoder?

I'm way out of my depth here -- I've never added a DVD drive to a computer that
didn't already have one.

This article seems to explain the need for one or more decoders:
http://www.tech-faq.com/dvd-decoder.shtml.

If you had bought the drive at retail instead of used, it would have come with a
Sony program called PowerDVD, which I think includes a decoder. Maybe you can
get a copy from the person who sold you the drive, or from Sony.
