Enterprise Custom Project Fields

Jason

Hello, experiencing an issue and wanted to see if anyone else is also
experiencing and has discovered a work around???

Current Environment:
Project Server 2007
Sp1
Post Sp1 hot-fix package (installed Feb 22nd)

Here’s the scoop:
If I create a new table and project field to my existing configuration, all
seems normal. However, when I open Project Professional, and then go to save
the challenge begins. When I click to the right of the “Custom Field Name†to
select a “Valueâ€; I find that values from one table mixed with another table.
This is only true within the "Save to Project Server" dailog box. If I go
back into Server Settings/ Enterprise Custom Fields to view the tables -- all
is normal.

I have seen this issue in three different environments/ installations. One
environment does not have either the Sp1 or the Post Sp1 hit-fix package. The
second environment has only Sp1 installed. Third environment has both the Sp1
and the Post Sp1 hit-fix package. The issue does not present itself at the
original point of configuration, but rather when you go back to add
afterwards.

Thanks, Jason

Have you tried deleting the contents of the Local Cache to see if this
resolves the issue? To do this, complete the following steps:

1. Click Start - Run.
2. Enter %appdata% in the Run dialog and then click the OK button.
3. Navigate to the Microsoft\MS Project\Cache folder.
4. Delete all of the folders and files in this directory.

Does this resolve this issue? Let us know.

Teach your PM's how to do this should they see the same problem as you. And
you are more than welcome for the help, my friend! :)

Do you have the roll-up patch installed on the client as well?

Dale or Gary,

I am the admin in the same environment - Project Server 2007; SP1; SP1
post rollout. Many of my PMs continually get a "checkin pending"
after they successfully saved and checked their project back in. The
only thing that resolves this is to delete the project from local
cache using the tool in MS Project Pro. I checked my local cache
today and I have 20 folders with many files in each folder. I thought
the deleting the files from local cache using the tool deletes
everything from local cache. Why do I have all of those folders?
Does this cause problems?
Your expert response to this will be greatly appreciated.

Karen:

Unfortunately, the cleanup tool does not work all that well. A sure fire way
to clean-up the cache is:

start > Run
%appdata%
Navigate to the MS Project folder
Delete everything under the folder

This actually deletes the cache and forces Project to rebuild it. Goodbye
clutter! Are your PMs closing project files using the X-button? If so, teach
them to use File > Close, which should eliminate most of the pending checkin
problems. Also, teach them not to close the application with a project file
open and make sure that they watch the status of each project save and
publish before closing the file or the application.
