Enterprise Duration 1 vs. (Local) Duration 1

I am trying to create a stoplight report that can be viewed in Project
Web Access (PWA) through a Project Center View.

I want the driver of indicator to be [Finish Variance] where
<=0 = Green
0-10d = Yellow
10d = Red

I successfully created this field using the Local Duration 1 field by
putting [Finish Variance] in my "formula" and then applying an
indicator.

Now I want to deploy this to the rest of my users via the Enterprise
template. When I mimic the formula using the Enterprise Duration 1
field, all I get are errors.

Does anyone know why?

When you create this formula in a custom enterprise field, you need to ask
all of your project managers to open each of their projects and press F9 to
recalculate the project. This should clear the errors. Hope this helps.

You're a genius! Thanks.

Follow Up question: Does this recalculation happen automatically? In
other words, if my Project Managers open their project with the new
global template then save and republish, will the recalculation
automatically happen? I ask because in my options I have it set to
Automatic Calculation.

Or is this always a manual process?

The automatic recalculation setting in Microsoft Project works only when an
event triggers the recalculation. Events can include actions like changing
a Duration, adding a new task, assigning a resource to a task, etc. This is
why I explicitly said they must press the F9 key to recalculate the project.
My experience shows that merely saving and publishing the project does not
trigger an automatic calculation. Tell them to open each project, press F9,
and then save and publish. Anyone whose projects do not show the indicators
in PWA probably skipped the F9 business. Hope this helps.
