Enterprise Global already contains a view

Trisha

Hello. I have a user that is receiving the following message(s) when she
opens a project that has been published to PS2007. She opens the project in
MS Project 2007 and receives the following messages:

The enterprise global already contains a view named "Task Usage."

Then when I click 'Replace All' it states that the global template already
has a view called Us&age and it wants me to rename it.

Why would this be happening and is there a way to fix this? It sounds as if
someone made changes to the global template.

Another question I have is...when looking under the organzier at the view
will the system explicitely say 'enterprise task usage' or 'enterprise
resource sheet', etc....

What I have right now under 'Views' ----> 'Checked-out Enterprise Global'
(right column) are the following fields:

* Enterprise Gantt Chart
* Gantt Chart
* Project Guide: Simple Resource Sheet
* Task Usage

The Task Usage is the one that is giving us the message. If I delete this
from this column how will it affect existing projects as I am only seeing
this message on one project (Loan IQ Project) and not any of our other
projects.

Thank You!

Only the first View is an enterprise View. You should delete the other
three from the Enterprise Global file. Click the Tasks tab while you are in
the Organizer dialog. The only enterprise task Table you should see is the
Enterprise Entry table. If you see anything else (such as the Usage table)
other than the Enterprise Entry table, you should delete them. Remember,
the Enterprise Global should hold only enterprise objects, such as Views,
Tables, Filters, Groups, etc. Hope this helps.

Hi Dale,

We're having the same problem that Trisha had, but with Resource Sheet view. I have 2 additional questions:

1. How is it that some users get these messages and other don't (the one that didn't opened the file BEFORE the one that dot it)?

2. As an administrator, how can I be sure that I am not deleting an enterprise global view? What will happen if I accidentally do?

Your Project Server administrator has polluted the Enterprise Global file
with a non-enterprise View (Task Usage) and a non-enterprise Table (Usage).
Refer to the following FAQ to remove the pollution

http://www.projectserverexperts.com/ProjectServerFAQKnowledgeBase/cantoverwriteobject.asp

Hope this helps

The only default enterprise View that ships with Project Server 2007 is the
Enterprise Gantt Chart view, and the only default enterprise Table is the
task Entry table. If you have anything else, such as the Resource Sheet
view, then your Project Server administrator has accidentally "polluted" the
Enterprise Global file with a non-enterprise View. To answer your
questions:

1. I do not know for sure, but I would guess that those who don't get the
warning are people who have never applied the Resource Sheet view in their
enterprise projects. Does it really matter why some people get the warning
and some do not?

2a. If your organization uses custom enterprise Views, Tables, Filters,
Groups, or Reports, then give them a name that makes them OBVIOUS as custom
objects for your organization. At our company, we prefix all custom
enterprise objects with "_msPE" which makes enterprise objects very obvious.
Use a similar naming convention at your company. Using the underscore
character forces the custom object to the top of the appropriate menu, and
the abbreviation of our company name shows it is a company enterprise
object. Beyond this, you should delete all other non-enterprise Views, such
as the Resource Sheet, and you should also delete non-enterprise task and
resource Tables. In your case, you would need to delete the resource Entry
table in addition to the Resource Sheet view.

2b. Before you begin deleting enterprise Views and Tables in the Enterprise
Global file, make a backup of the Enterprise Global using the Backup
capabilities in the PWA administrator interface. Then, if you screw things
up, you can restore the Enterprise Global using the enterprise Restore
capabilities as well.

Hope this helps.
