I have Project Server 2003 (SP2a) running on Windows 2003 SP1. And
Project Professional 2003 running on XP SP2.
Yesterday I edited the Enterprise Global Template via MS Project
Professional 2003 – so that I could add a new entry to a custom
Outline Code list. I backed up the Enterprise Global Template first
(I have that file) and then
• Opened it (it was “Checked-Out Enterprise Global”),
• added the entry
o via Customize -> Enterprise fields. Custom Outline Codes tab and I
believe I chose the “Project” radio button to find the existing
code.
o I clicked on the code I wanted (Project Supervisors (Enterprise
Project Outline Code 7)) and the clicked “Edit Lookup Table” button.
o I located the position in the list (it is an alphabetical listing of
people - Surname + initials), then inserted a row (using the Insert
Row button), put in the name I wanted, clicked Close, and then Ok (on
the Customize Enterprise Fields dialog))
• saved the Enterprise Global Template (by exiting – it asks if you
want to save it, said yes then it closed).
There are now 2 different errors displayed (on different PCs) when
trying to open Project Professional (and connect to Project Server)
The first error is on my PC :
1. On a client workstation, start MS Project Professional (ie Start ->
Programs -> Microsoft Office -> Microsoft Office Project 2003)
2. On startup, Project Professional attempts to connect to MS Project
Server (see attached)
3. After a few seconds, the error message is shown
“Incompatible Codepages.
Project has detected incompatible codepages.
• The Project Server is using Codepage .
• Your computer is using Codepage -1.”
4. After clicking ok, the “Project Server Accounts” dialog is shown.
If you click “Cancel” MS Project Professional closes. If you choose
Connect it tries to connect again with the same outcome.
On another user's PC (also a Project Administrator) ...
"Cannot connect.
Project was unable to establish a connection with the selected Project
Server. This could be caused by a loss of network connectivity,
invalid user name or password, lack of an enterprise global template,
or problems with the Project Server or database, or your Project
Server may not have enterprise features enabled."
I've checked regional setting on both PCs and the server ... PCs are
set to English (Australia) except on the "Advanced" tab of Regional
and Language Options where it is English (United States). Server is
set to English (Australia) on all tabs and all the code page
conversion tables are ticked. I tried changing my PC to English
(Australia) on the Advanced tab .. no difference .. I didn't tick all
the conversion tables though cos I didn't know what it would do ...
and I've already broken enough stuff :|
I can't get into MS Project Professional now to restore the enterprise
global template ... and there doesn't seem to be a way to do it from
Project Web Access (which I can still get to).
Any help to solve the issue would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks
