Enterprise Resource Calenders

I am using Project Pro 2007 & Project Server 2007

I've read through the posts about enterprise calendars. I was unable to find
out how to set an exception or non-working day for a specific resource.

We're not using timesheets yet, so the solution should not include
submitting a timesheet that includes a time-off request.

Thanks in advance.

To set nonworking time such as vacation on a resource's calendar, the
someone with administrator permissions must do the following in Project
Professional 2007:

1. Click Tools - Enterprise Options - Open Enterprise Resource Pool.
2. In the Project Center page, select the option checkbox for the resource
in questiona and then click the Open button.
3. Double-click the name of the resource in the Resource Sheet view in
Project Professional 2007.
4. On the General page of the Resource Information dialog, click the Change
Working Time button.
5. In the Change Working Time dialog, click the Exceptions tab if
necessary.
6. In the calendar at the top of the page, select the dates for nonworking
time.
7. In the data grid at the bottom, enter a name for the nonworking time,
such as Vacation and then press the down arrow key to navigate to the next
line.
8. Notice that the system enters the nonworking time as specified in the
calendar.
9. Click the OK button to close the Change Working Time dialog.
10. Click the OK button to close the Resource Information dialog.
11. Save and close the Enterprise Resource Pool.

After entering nonworking time, such as vacation, Project Server 2007 will
automatically reschedule task work for the resource around the nonworking
time in all enterprise project to which the resource is assigned. If you
eventually intend to enter nonworking time using the PWA timesheet, the
system will NOT add the nonworking time to each resource's calendar in the
Enterprise Resource Pool. Hope this helps.

Hi Dale,

Your detailed answer below was very much appreciated and I found it
extremely helpful. Quick question, once I have changed an individual
resource calender, how do reflect the new calender for this resource take
affect on a schedule where that resource is allocated? For example, I change
a resource calender today to show the resource is on holiday in October
however there are a number of tasks for this resource still showing work
being carried out in October.

Your continued support is greatly appreciated.

Kind Regards,

Paul

Paul --

After you add nonworking time to a resource calendar, Project Server 2007
will automatically reschedule task work during the nonworking time period
THE NEXT TIME the PM opens his/her enterprise project. For example, suppose
I have a resource assigned in a project to Task A, which is a 5-day Duration
task starting on Monday, October 5th. And suppose that the Project Server
administrator adds 5 days of nonworking time for vacation, beginning on
Monday, October 5th. The next time I open my project, Task A will be
rescheduled automatically to start one week later on Monday, October 12th.
At that time, I can make a project management decision about whether to live
with the one week delay, or whether to replace the vacationing resource with
a resource that would be available the week of October 5th. Hope this
helps.
