Enterprise Resource Default Availability

Working at a client site that by default wants to show enterprise resources
available for 6 hours per workday. I've searched through the posts here and
tried several of the recommendations, but still can't get the results I'm
after.

Is it possible to get where when a PM uses the "Build Team From Enterprise"
option that th resource's availability shows 6 hours, and the project plan by
default only schedules a resource for 6 hours a day? I need this to happen by
default, as we'll never get the PMs to apply a calendar to a project or
resource.

Thanks in advance.

Hi John,
there are several ways to do this. One is to set the enterprise calendar to
6 hours each day. Note though that doing this will change the scheduling for
any existing projects. Also, you'll need to modify each Project Pro desktop
(Tools | Calendar I think) to show 6 hours per day etc).

An alternative way would be to leave 8 hours in the calendar, but then to
change the resource units to 75%. I can't remember if this then schedules
them for 6 hours by default. However, in this case, if you type in 1 day
duration for a task, (8 hours in effect), and assign a resource at 75%, then
the duration will increase to 1.3 days. Obviously you can change this by
fixing the duration etc.

You'll need to do a little experimenting to see what works best for you.

Thanks for the reply Ben.

I've tried this. Maybe I'm dense, but when I have the hours per day set as 6
in both the enterprise and application calendar, when I enter a task with a
duration of 16 hours, shouldn't it stretch over two and a half days as
opposed to showing only two?

Have you modified the Project Pro client so that it is defined as 6 hours per
day? I'm not at a PC project on currently so cannot check the exact option.
Let me know how you get on, as this is configurable.

Ben:

The steps as you indicated worked. My dumb butt didn't close Project so it
would load the new enterprise template when it launched. Makes a difference.

Thanks
