Enterprise resource name conflicts - special characters?

Hello! I'm synchronizing my Enterprise Resource Pool with a defined AD
group and it works for the most part, except it bombs when trying to
add a user that has square brackets [] in their display name. For
example, a user is listed AD as "John Smith", display name "John Smith
[New York/NY]". Project Server is able to synchronize security groups
with this user name in it, but it can't handle synchronizing the
Enterprise Resource Pool with this name in the group. Any way to get
around it? I even tried adding the same user manually by doing the
Import Resources to Enterprise wizard. It gives me a "Name or Windows
Account error". Thanks!

The resource name field cannot contain those characters. If you're AD is
setup using such characters in naming, then it may not be a suitable choice
for you, unless you write a custom version to strip out the bad character
data.

Lauren - Are you using analysis services? Square brackets are an
illegal character in OLAP and resource names are, of course, a key
field in the cube. I suspect this is the root of your issue. I am
afraid that I don't know of any workaround.

Thought of something else. Does the user appear in PWA? If so, select
the user, modify the user, and check "Clear th AD GUID'. This will
stop further updates from AD. That might solve your problem.

If you can get it to synch once, you might try setting the Ignore AD
GUID for the user. In PWA, Admin > Manage Users and Groups > select
the user, > Modify, check the Ignore AD GUID box, then save changes.
That will prevent AD from trying to synch that user again.
