Enterprise Resource Pool versus Local Resources

Johnnie Rotten

Hello,

We would like to enforce the selection of only Resources defined within the
Enterprise Resource Pool when a project is published to Project Server.

Is there a setting or configuration within Project Server 2003?

Thanks!!!

There is no default method within Project Server to prevent the use of local
resources. Therefore, you will need to make this a training and performance
issue with your project managers. In their defense, however, you should
probably ask them why they feel the need to use local resources in their
projects. Is it because they have not unlearned old habits of typing
resource names in the Resource Sheet view of a new project (which creates
local resources), or is it because they need specific resources that do not
exist in the Enteprise Resource Pool, such as generic resources or
contractors? From there, you can make your best decision about how to
handle this situation.

To help you with enforcement, you might want to create a special Portfolio
Analyzer view that contains only project names and the Local Resources
option of the Resource Status dimension. This view will confirm whether any
project contains local resources contrary to your company policy. Hope this
helps.
