Enterprise Resource Pool

S Williams

Hello,

I have added some enterprises to our Enterprise Resource Pool using the
Enterprise Options in MS Project Professional and have verified that they are
in the PWA.

When I reopen the Enterprise Resource Pool in MS project Professional the
resources do not show up. I reentered them and when I went to save them was
told that there were duplicate names and could not save the Resource pool.

How do I get them to show up in the Enterprise Resource Pool in MS Project
Professional?

Thanks,

Are you saying that if you click Tools - Enterprise Options - Open
Enterprise Resource Pool, you do not see a list of resources in the
resulting dialog? What happens if you open a new blank project and click
Tools - Build Team from Enterprise? Do you see a list of resources there?

S

S Williams

I had added some resources to the Enterprise Resource Pool earlier and added
more yesterday. When I open the Enterprise Resource Pool, I only see the
ones I added earlier and not the ones I added yesterday. Also, when I open a
new blank project and build the team from enterprise, I do not see the ones I
added yesterday.

When I add them to the Enterprise Resource Pool and close/save the project,
I get the message that there is a duplicate resource name for the ones I am
trying to add.

Thanks,

Could it be that the resource has not been assigned any tasks and that is why
they are not showing up in the Enterprise Resource Pool?

I am trying to get MS Project Server ready for a demo tommorrow and wanted
my resources to be there but am not ready for them to be assigned tasks or be
associated with any projects.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!!!

Thanks,

S Williams

I am totally puzzled why you would create enterprise resources and then they
would not appear. Try this:

1. Launch Microsoft Project Professional and log into Project Server with
administrator permissions
2. Click Tools - Enterprise Options - Enterprise Resource Pool
3. In the Open Enterprise Resources dialog, select the "Include inactive
resources" option
4. Click the Apply Filter button
5. Click the Select/Deselect All button and then click the Open/Add button

Do you now see the resources you added? If so, are they set to Inactive
somehow? Are you using Active Directory synchronization that might set
these new resources to Inactive? Just some thoughts. If anyone else has an
idea, I would welcome their thoughts in trying to troubleshoot your problem.

What user are they logged in as? If they are using the Administrator
account I think I recall that the built in administrator account has
permissions to create resources but not permissions to SEE them.

Can any other user see these resources? Try creating a new user that has
all the permissions available and membership in a Category\Group that
gives them access to all current and future resources and see if they can
see them.

Dale,

I tried your suggestion about viewing inactive resources and they still
didn't appear.

Brian K.

I am logged into the MS Project Server and the MS Project trying to view the
resources in the Enterprise Resource Pool. I can only see the ones that were
created a while back not the ones I created yesterday.

I also tried changing the user name of one of the resources, opening the
Enterprise Resource Pool in MS Project and adding the resource back and
save/close the pool. I was able to add this resource, I could see him in MS
project Server, but when I opened the Enterprise Resource Pool back up, he
was not listed (again).

Could it be because of the "RBS"?

Any and all help will be appreciated. I am at the deadline here!!

Thanks,

S Williams

It could be due to the RBS. Does the user you are logged in as now have
membership in a Group\Category that allows visibility for resources they
manage or "All current and future" resources?

Are you a member of the Administrators group in Project Server, or are you a
member of another group with limited administrator capabilities? I would
recommend that you be a member of the Administrators group so that you get
full access to all enterprise resources, regardless of their RBS level.
Hope this helps.

Dale,

I am a member of the Administrators group and as well.

Brian,

I am a member of the Administrators group. If it is the RBS how do I fix
the problem. I have tried recreating the RBS by checking out the Enterprise
Global, going to "Tools", "Customize", "Enterprise Resource Pool", etc. When
I pull up the RBS it has one element as shared and the RBS indicates it is
linked (I'm not sure with what?)'

Thanks.

What level are you in the RBS field? Look at yourself in the Enterprise
Resource Pool and make sure you are at the highest level. I'm wondering if
someone changed the default permissions in the My Organization category so
that users only see the resources governed by the RBS. Let us know.

We really only have one level in the RBS field and I am at that level. I
don't think anyone would change the permissions in the My Organization
category because we are not that knowledgeable about MS Project Server and if
a default was set we wouldn't change it. I am not sure how to check this
setting in MS Server.

Here's a thought though. I know there is a way you can add users and not
add them as Enterprise Resources. Is it a possiblity that when I added the
users, they didn't come up as Enterprise Resources but only as local
resources? I don't know how to check this but am wondering if that happened.

I also tried to delete a user in MS Project Server and was told that I
didn't have the correct permissions to do this. Maybe my permissions are set
up incorrectly.

What are your thoughts/suggestions?

Thanks for all your help!!!

Without actually seeing your system, I'm at a loss to diagnose your problem.
If you are a member of the Administrators group, and no one has modified the
permissions in the My Organization category or the Administrators group,
then you should be able to see all resources in the Enterprise Resource
Pool.

If you open the Enterprise Resource Pool for editing, add resources, and
then save the pool, the resources should be there the next time you open it.
The only way to create local resources is to open a project, apply the
Resource Sheet view, and then manually type the names of the resources
there. I don't think you did this.

Concerning your deleting resources issue, members of the Administrators
group have permission to delete resources. Because you get an error that
says you do not have permissions to delete a resource, this makes me wonder
if someone, knowledgeable or not, has messed around with the default
permissions for Groups or Categories.

I'm simply drawing a blank as to the cause of your problem. I will glady
invite others to try and help you as well. Sorry I cannot be of more help.

Thanks for all your help Dale.

Can you tell me how I would look at the permissions for the My Organization
group?

I'm not sure I know how to do this!!

Complete these steps:

1. Log into PWA with Administrator permissions
2. Click Admin - Manage security
3. Select the My Organization category and click the Modify Category button
4. In the Users and Groups section, select the Administrators group and
examine the Permissions grid (all of the permisions should be set to Allow)
5. In the Projects section, the "All current and future projects..." option
should be selected and all Project views should be selected
6. In the Resources section, the "All current and future resources..."
option should be selected
7. If you made any changes, click the Save Changes button

Just a thought. Just in case somebody messed with things, do these steps:

1. Log into PWA with Administrator permissions
2. Click Admin - Manage users and groups
3. Select yourself from the pick list and click the Modify user button
4. In the Groups section, make sure you are only included in the
Administrators group
5. Expand the Categories section and make sure NO categories are selected
for you
6. Expand the Global Permissions section and make sure there are NO
permissions selected for you

In steps 5 and 6 in the second set of steps, you are given access to
Categories by being a member of the Administrators group, and your Global
Permissions are set for you because you are a member of this group. Hope
this helps.
