Enterprise Resources

R

Rob

Our clients can't see any of the enterprise resources. We are using Project
Server 2003, Exchange 5.5 (No AD) and Project Professional 2003. I can get a
client to connect to the server and save a project to the server. But, when
I try to Build Team from Enterprise the list is empty. All of our Project
Managers have the rights to build a team.

Any thoughts?

In Project Server 2003 I created the resources as team members.

To add enterprise resources, you must do the following:

1. Launch Microsoft Project Professional and log into Project Server with
administrator permissions
2. Click Tools - Enterprise Options - Open Enterprise Resource Pool
3. Click the Open/Add button
4. Enter your resources in the Resource Sheet view
5. Double-click each name, add the Windows Account and E-Mail Address for
each resource, and click OK
6. Save and close the Enterprise Resource Pool

Did you perform the above steps? If not, you did not add enterprise
resources. Hope this helps.

Actuallly, when you open Project Pro and log on to the server you choose
Tools - Build Team from Enterprise and your enterprise list of team members
from the Project Server will appear. You then choose each name from the left
side and add it to the right side. Once you click on okay they will appear
in your resource sheet. The email address come from the Project server setup
for each team member.

The problem is that no names are showing up when we Build Team from
Enterprise.

If no names appear in the Build Team from Enterprise dialog, then you have
not added resources to the Enterprise Resource Pool. Nowhere in your posts
have I seen you state definitively that you added resources to the
Enterprise Resource Pool. So, did you or didn't you? If you didn't, you
need to do so. If you did, then tell us about how you did it. Let us know.

Dale,

Your statement is confusing me. I have worked with other companies that
have set up Project Server. They have set up all of their team members on
the server (as the administrator). When the client logs on to the server
through project and uses the build team from enterprise option in the tools

had to go through the steps of adding them individually on each client
machine first. the point of Project Serveris to be able to add your team on

Your Project Server administrator has to add the resources to the Enteprise
Resource Pool FIRST before anyone can access these resources in the project
using the Build Team from Enterprise wizard. If you have worked with other
companies that use Project Server, it sounds like you were not their Project
Server administrator, or you would have known this fact about Project
Server. If you are serving as the Project Server administrator for your new
employer, and have administrator permissions with Project Server, you MUST
do the following to enter the resources into the system:

1. Launch Microsoft Project Professional and log into Project Server with
administrator permissions
2. Click Tools - Enterprise Options - Open Enterprise Resource Pool
3. Click the Open/Add button
4. Enter your resources in the Resource Sheet view
5. Double-click each name, add the Windows Account and E-Mail Address for
each resource, and click OK
6. Save and close the Enterprise Resource Pool

Arguing with me about this will not solve your problem. Either you need to
perform the above steps or Project Server administrator to perform the above
steps. Only after resources are entered in the Enterprise Resource Pool
will the project managers be able to see them in the Build Team from
Enterprise wizard. Hope this helps.

In your second post, you mentioned that you created the resources in Project
Server. It sounds like you did this in Project Web Access which creates user
accounts, but does not add users to the resource pool. There's a distinct
difference between USER and RESOURCE. All human resources are users. Not all
users are resources.

A number of possible causes:

The notification server information hasn't been entered into the system. If
this is the case, you'll likely find that set reminders on the home page is
non-functional.

The email addresses are incorrect or missing

The SMTP server you're sending to hasn't been configured to accept and relay
messages from your project server

Check your application event log on the server for error messages related to
the notifications
