Entire size of page resizes automatically

Hi,

Whenever I open up a document created in Word 2003, the entire size of the page increases. The result is that the text is shrunken in relative terms and off center. The size of the page clearly is bigger than 8.5" x 11". But when I try to manually reset the paper size using page settings, the page size is listed as 8.5" x 11".

I'm not sure if this matters, but the file I am trying to open is very large with a lot of graphs.

Please help!

Thanks!

Go into Word>Preferences>View and switch on "Text Boundaries" so you can see
what you are doing.

I suspect you will find that the document content is hanging over the
margins of the document (and probably, over the edge of the paper, too...)

In which case, changing the paper size will not work until you have moved
stuff around to bring it back inside the text boundaries you can now see.

Cheers

You don't specify which version of Word you're using, which could possibly
make a difference - especially if not fully updated. As a thought in
addition to John's comments, however...

If by "off center" you mean in the upper left corner of what appears to be
the enlarged page, it's possible that the doc contains Comments as a result
of editing done on the PC with Track Changes active. If the Comment balloons
aren't showing up in the right margin you may very well be dealing with a
corrupt document.
