Entourage 2001 and Exchange 2003

I have been able to get Entourage to connect to my Exchange 2003 server
via imap for email purposes. Is it possible to access the GAL using
Entourage 2001. My GAL is actually on one of my domain controllers. I
am not concerned with sharing calendars, public folders or any of the
other features of Exchange. Just wish to use Entourage 2001 for Email
on our OS 9 Macs rather than Outlook 2001 which has several known
issues.

If the GAL is accessible through LDAP, you probably can. You have to add
it as a directory service specifying all the LDAP parameters.

Do you know where I can find an example of the LDAP string that I would
need to put into Entourage for this to work. I have been told that this
might work but I really do not know how to format the LDAP search
string.

Well that's very specific to your server and settings.
Back when our net admin here were not really helping, I tried figuring
it out for our network by myself and simply couldn't. I don't think you
can "guess" it and there are dozens and dozens of options.
Once we have the address of the server, port and authentication method
entered, *our* search base looks like this:
DC=subdomain,DC=domain,DC=com(or net or info or edu...).
