Version: 2004
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard)
Processor: Intel
Email Client: pop

I am currently running Entourage 2004 11.4.0 on my Macbook Pro and I have just purchased a new unibody Macbook pro.

I am really worried about the migration over from 2004 to - New mac with Entourage 12.2.1.

What is the safest way to do this? without losing any data? and for the new Entourage to not be buggy?

Also, as I sync currently my Blackberry Bold and Pocketmac - any known issues.

Its like getting blood out of a stone getting any info from Pocketmac!

First do not remove Office 2004 when install Office 2008. If you do have
problems importing from Office 2004 then you will need to open Entourage
2004 and export your data for import as .rge file or MBOX files.

I suggest that you clean up your Deleted Items folder and junk folder before
importing.

Test the validity of your 2004 Identity by using File > Export > All items
as Entourage archive (.rge) file (this is the default action)

If it exports without error your Identity is good. If it fails, then there
are problems. Export each item one at a time. It's possible it's just
messages but it could be contacts, events etc are the culprit.

If it is messages, then use the script to export as MBOX files. The script
will fail on the folder with corruption. It's divide and search to find the
corrupt message.

Export folders as MBOX files (includes subfolders)

One you get the data into Entourage 2008, if you want to be doubly sure,
export as Entourage archive (.rge) file and import THAT file into a new
Identity.

Yes. It's advised to only sync one item at a time for best results. I would
turn off Sync Services in Entourage until you are sure you are ready to sync
the first time.

Assign a category to every item. Duplicates will have the "None" category
assigned.

Backup your contacts and events as individual items. If you have to replace,
you can easily import the backup to recover.

You might want to start with a primary source like Entourage, then replace
all items in each application that you sync to.

Troubleshoot Sync Services: reset sync services and start fresh

Hope this helps!

wow, thats great advice. Well, as you advise, I exported to a .rge with no errors and now my other laptop is importing the .rge file.

So, I guess this should be ok? what do I do as it looks like its created a folder on its own called "Main identity.rge" what do I do when its finished importing?

thanks

If you imported the Identity rather than the .rge file, it would get
everything...accounts, rules etc. Just move the Identity that you verified
to the new computer. Create an Office 2004 Identities folder in the
Microsoft User Data folder. When you open Office 2008 it will import and
upgrade the old Identity. If it fails then revert to the one that was just
the .rge import.

See these movies for dealing with MBOX and .rge files.
