Entourage 2004 Adding Rule Sounds Help Needed!

I just upgraded from Outlook Express 5 running in Mac OS 9.1 to
Entourage 2004 running on a new PowerBook 17 running in Mac OS 10.3.8.
I was able to import all of my old mail, addresses and rules but not
the sounds that I had in Outlook Express 5.

The problem is that I had 50 plus folders with the email being
automatically filed in the appropriate folder when received using
rules. I then had about 10 different sounds that would go off depending
on what type of email came in. This system worked great but I no longer
have sounds to choose from in Entourage 2004 except for the 4 different
sounds like incoming mail sound, no mail sound, and 2 others. I need to
have at least 10-20 different sounds available to differentiate the
different folders.

Does anyone know where to acquire and more importantly how to actually
add between 10 and 20 different sounds to Entourage 2004 that will ALL
be available under rules?

Sorry, Thomas. I can say with almost complete certainty that your wish
cannot be granted under Entourage 2004. While you can download, install and
use dozens of different sound *sets*, you may only use one of them at a
time, and there is but one sound available for, say, incoming mail, in each
set.

You may find a ton of different sound sets for free at
http://www.soundsetcentral.com. Just make sure you download those sets that
display the newer, purple "e" logo. Download the sets and place them in the
following directory: [USER] > Documents > Microsoft User Data > Entourage
Sound Sets.

I tend to agree with you that a much more flexible sound management
capability would be great. When my Inbox "dings," I first look in the InBox,
but if the mail item is not there, then I have to scan dozens of folders to
see in which folder some rule might have placed the item. If there are
already new, unread items in a particular folder, and you don't remember
exactly how many were unread previously, you have a guessing game going on.

Personally, I'd prefer the ability to flash the folder on/off in a
particular color for say between 2 and 10 seconds (user-defined) -- or at
least change the folder color temporarily -- say until it is accessed. This
would, for me, be even more valuable than differing sounds for different
folders/rules.

You can use a Rule to play a sound. See directions here:

There are also additional sounds you can download. I couldn't live without
my special sounds to notify me of special mail.
