Entourage 2004 crashes on right-click

I'm running Entourage 2004 on 10.4.8 on a MacBook Pro Core Duo machine.
Any right click in the application causes it to crash. After it
2-crashes and 1 "Reopen" in the crash reporter I get the "Try Again"
option in the crash reporter. Clicking that relaunches the app and
then right clicking works. Then when I quit it gives me 2 choices to
use new settings or use original settings. Neither of those choices
fixes the problem.

So the sequence is:
launch Entourage
right-click causes crash
"Reopen" form crash reporter
right-click causes crash
"Try Again" from crash reporter
then right-clicking works

It's all very repeatable and very annoying. I basically have to crash
Entourage twice in order to use right-click.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. I have tried deleting the
prefs and also reinstalling just Entourage from my Office disk (without
kiling my profile and everything).

All of my mail is stored on an exchange server so I could kill my
profile and start over, but I'm hoping there's an easier way. I'm also
not sure exactly what files to kill to kill the profile.

Thanks in advance.

This is a new one. Don't you just love being different? :)

What software runs your mouse?

Testing in a new User will quickly tell you if the problem is system wide or
if it's your User's folder that contains the problem.

Create a new User:

Choose Apple menu > System Preferences and click Accounts.
If some settings are dimmed, click the lock icon and type an administrator
name and password.
Click Add (+) and type the user's name.
If you don't want to use the short name generated automatically, type a new
short name. (Once the account is created, you won't be able to change the
short name.)
Type the user's password in the Password and Verify boxes.
Type a hint to help the user remember the password if they have trouble
remembering it at login.

Thanks for the reply. This is driving me crazy so I'm glad to hear
from someone...

I just created another user account on my machine and right-clicking
works fine there. I tried it both before and after adding the exchange
account and it worked in both cases.

So is the next step then to kill my Entourage user folder on my main os
x account? Can you tell me how to do that?

I'm using a wireless mighty mouse btw.

Thanks again!

I would try deleting the preference for your mouse first. Your mouse
preference should start with com.apple. This is a strange result of database
corruption. If that doesn't work, try dragging out all of your preferences
except com.apple.finder.plist. Log out/in. Drag the remaining ones in
small groups to test. You will need to log out/in to test.

If it isn't your preferences, rebuild your database.

How to rebuild your database:

Thanks for your help. I found the problem plist and got rid of it. It
was for a contextual menu plugin called PicturePopPro that I never used
anyway. I just got rid of it completely and now all is well.

Those are good general troubleshooting techniques that will probably
come in handy in the future if something else goes haywire. Hopefully
that won't happen though...

Thanks Again.
