Entourage 2004 crashing with Exchange calendar after 10.5.2 update

Hi folks - hope you can help.

I've had Entourage 2004 talking to my workplace's Exchange server for over 12 months, pulling down my email account, plus a number of shared calendars and a shared address book, with little/no problems.

Last week, after installing Apple's 10.5.2 Leopard update (along with the Leopard Graphics Update), I opened Entourage to find a problem with the database, and duly rebuilt as per the program's instructions.

Ever since, having re-synced with the server I have all my emails but the program instantly locks up if I try and access the calendar (using the Calendars button). Everything, including the Progress window, freezes where it was and the only way out is a restart. Trying to restart straight away just locks up on the opening pane (before the main window opens), and if I leave it a while it comes back.

I've tried removing Office and reinstalling, with a brand new identity etc, all Sync Services are off, and still have the same problem. Is this a fault with my software, or with the calendar I'm trying to pull from the server? I'm currently stuck with the less-than-satisfactory webmail access for my calendar.

Help!

Did you use the Software Updater or did you download the combo updater from
Apple? Standalone OS updater are always more successful than the incremental
updaters from Software Updater.

Let me know if this helps?

You new Identity should have worked. To me this indicates the OS files that
Entourage uses.

Your troubleshooting is on the right track. I suspect you have a corrupt
calendar event causing the problem. You can go into Outlook Web Access
(OWA) to try and find it but it could be tedious work. Usually, though,
the corrupt messages stick out. They may have foreign characters or
strange attachments. Delete the message and try syncing Entourage again.

Hope this helps!

Thanks both for the prompt replies - Diane, yes I did it via Software Update and have since read many a post advising the use of the Combo updater and will be doing that in future!

The problem seems to have since been resolved (I can again access my calendar and seem to have full functionality restored), and the only change I can trace is disabling a bit of third party software (Earthdesk 4, a desktop picture application of all things). I don't know if this is a known bug and/or if it's sheer coincidence, but for now things are running perfectly well again so fingers crossed.

Thanks for your help.

Ah! Haxies and third party software. The test for that is to log out/in
holding down shift key to disable startup items. Thanks for reminding me
about checking for third party conflicts.

You are not alone.

I am having the same issue after installing the 10.5.2 Leopard update.

Though I don't have any alternatives to resolve the issue, I did, at
the very least, want you and others to know that it is not isolated.

You might need to download the combo updater from Apple and run it again
rather than using Software Update. Doing so overwrites potentially
problem-causing files. Several users have reported this fixed some odd
problems they were having with Entourage. Combo updaters will install on the
same version as they¹re applying‹no need to roll back or do a clean install.
