Entourage 2004 / Exchange password problems

Running Entourage 2004 (newly installed) on Mac OS X 10.4.8 off a
hosted Exchange 2003 server on intermedia.net.

I set up Entourage with the proper account information and was able to
send and receive email, sync my contacts, and so on.

Then randomly the password would stop working. I would get an "unable
to receive mail...would you like to re-enter your password?" (A search
of "entourage 2004 exchange password problem" in this group shows that
many people have had this problem.)

I tried deleting the keychain, entering the password in Entourage
without having it saved, etc. No avail. Then I logged into OWA at the
same time Entourage was running and all of a sudden everything worked
for around 10 minutes. Then I logged out of OWA and Entourage still
worked. Then, and this was around 8 minutes later, I re-opened
Entourage and logged back into OWA thinking that's how I could make
sure it works. But this time, I got the password problem again, so my
hope for a quick fix with having OWA open vanished.

Do any Exchange server experts out there have any clue what could be
causing this from the information above? It really seems like a server
issue. Again, the password error occurs with no settings changed and
the exact same settings/password I use in other mail clients that don't
have any problems (Apple Mail, Thunderbird, Eudora).

I agree it sounds like a server issue. The Mac OS Keychain does seem to get
corrupt from time to time and the fix is to delete the entry and let
Entourage re-create it, but this doesn't sound like that problem.

I'd suggest you contact your exchange account host and ask if they can give
any clues.

Think I got this working. In the account configuration, for the account
ID (I'm using Intermedia HostPilot), I had to put username only instead
of (e-mail address removed), which I use to log into OWA.

WebDAV appears to work fine, as I logged in directly from the Finder,
so I was able to rule that out and look more closely at account
settings.
