Entourage 2004: having to delete unread e-mail twice to delete

dbtoub

I've made no updates to my version of Entourage in some time (I'm
running 11.3.3 (061214), and for the past few weeks have noticed that
if I delete an unread e-mail, it momentarily disappears in the inbox,
but then comes back and I have to delete it again. I'm running OS
10.4.10. Any suggestions?

You should always run the latest updates. Mactopia Downloads

Not a usual symptom, but could be a sign of database corruption. Is this an
exchange account?

How to rebuild database:
Quit any applications that are running, including virus-protection
applications, all Office applications, Microsoft Messenger for Mac, and
Office Notifications, because they might interfere with rebuilding.

I did rebuild the database, and no success. This happens with my
exchange account and IMAP (.mac) account.

I think your problem lies with the exchange server. You could test by
creating a new Identity add account info and see if it happens in a clean
Identity. You could then test further by creating a new User in System
Preferences and repeat testing in a new Identity. If the problem persists in
these clean settings, look to the exchange server.

This is not an Exchange server issue. It is happening right now at
home using my .mac account. It is without question an Entourage 2004
issue. Please let me know your thoughts about how best to approach
this. Thanks.

This is not normal behavior for Entourage. Diane's suggestion is still a
good one.

Create a new identity using Entourage --> Switch Identity... and see if
the problem follows. If it doesn't then the problem most likely is with
your old identity. You can then decide to try to repair your old
identity using Entourage's database utility or stay with the new
identity and try to migrate to that.

Unfortunately, if I try to switch identities, Entourage crashes when I
relaunch it. I've rebuilt my database and that has not helped. It
happens with .mac e-mail and Exchange-based e-mail, so it is not an
issue with Exchange. Any ideas what might be going on?

It sounds like your base OS files have problems. You might be able to fix
this by applying the latest combo updater, but you might have to do an
"Archive & Install".

Download the combo updater from Apple and run it again rather than using
Software Update.

Using the combo updater from Apple rather than using Software Update
overwrites potentially problem-causing files. Several users have reported
this fixed some odd problems they were having with Entourage. Combo updaters
will install on the same version as they¹re applying‹no need to roll back or
do a clean install.
