Entourage 2004 keeps redownloading old emails

Version: 2004 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) Processor: Intel Email Client: pop As the subject describe why is it entourage will keep re-downloading old emails. The Account is configured as pop and was set to leave a copy on the server for at 1 week (7 days) then should be deleted after.

I really can't understand as to why entourage would re-download over and over again an old emails.

No settings were change. Did not rebuild the database. Is there a way to stop this? Is it from entourage or server settings?

Googling it reveals that a lot of entourage users are affected regardless of what server you are using.. It just plainly frustrating.. and my entourage users are MAD at me not able to provide a solution for it.

Right now turning off this option "leave a copy on the server" on Entourage account settings is not an option for us.. as most of the user would want to check online when they are out of the office or at home.

Our Server supports IMAP but our storage is limited. We have only about 2GB data for 30+ users.

We have 25+ Apple Mail Users and have not had any single complain but most of the 7 or 8 entourage users has this issue..

someone please help!

This is usually a result of the server being reset. Often when they do an
upgrade to security settings, you¹ll get multiple downloads again because
the message IDs are reset when the server is reset. Entourage uses the ID to
know what's been downloaded.

Some ISPs seem to be more prone to this than others.

I suggest you switch to IMAP and you won¹t have this problem any longer and
the mail is available from multiple sources.

Thans Diane. At the moment switching to IMAP is not an option for us until we can upgrade our Email Server. Is there a temporary fix on this aside from disabling the option &quot;leave a copy on the server&quot;

You can log into your account online and move mail out of the Inbox.
Entourage only sees the Inbox to download POP.

Just to update this thread. I have found out that the POP account of one of our entourage users are being setup in different locations. Meaning the user has a POP account on the office and as well as the user setup the same POP account on an iPhone.

Could this be the cause of it why the entourage redownlaods olds email as the email server could not track who donwloads the messages from different location?
