Entourage 2004 POP/Junk Mail SLOW!

I'm receiving about 2,000 junk mail messages a day through my POP account
and have the Entourage 2004 Junk Mail Filter turned on "Low." Whenever I go
to download my messages, Entourage will begin downloading and then show the
spinning cursor for 5 minutes or so.

I've tried the following:

1. Rebuilding my database (nothing worked)
2. Turning off/disabling all my rules (nothing)
3. Disabling Junk Mail Filter (slowness went away)

Is there anything I can do to keep the Junk Mail Filter on but still not
have this horrible slowdown?

Set it to High or Exclusive. Exclusive will certainly be faster, maybe High
too (worth a try). High doesn't' cause that problem here.
