Entourage 2004 stops checking mail

I am using Entouarge 2004 on a PowerBook Pro running 10.4. Entourage stalls
every time I check my mail. It will show the number of emails waiting to be
received but it will not download them.

Any suggestions.

Probably a bad message on the server. Most likely it's the oldest one. How
