Entourage 2008 calendar events and tasks duplicating

C

CodependentMac

Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)

I recently upgraded from Office 2004 to 2008, and now all of my calendar events and tasks are duplicating. Email messages, contacts and notes are not duplicating.

I have run the remove duplicate scripts as suggested on this site, but it has not done anything. I have spent many hours over this past week trying to solve the problem, but am at wit's end re how to remove dupes and make sure it doesn't occur again.

I also use a Palm handheld, and even before the duplicating problems, I could not get Entourage 2008 and iSync to sync to the palm handheld correctly. All day calendar events would appear on the wrong day on the handheld.

I don't use iCal or Palm Desktop, except as the iSync program is using them. I have not been trying to sync with MobileMe or any server. It's just my desktop and the handheld.

I've updated all the software, but no change.

I can't tell if the problem is iSync or Entourage 2008 -- Apple will not accept any responsibility for addressing the problem, even though I have Apple Care. The 'genius' at the local Apple Store knew less than I did after I read an hour's worth of posts here. MS Office support won't help because my software was purchased at the non-profit rate.

Hello,

I have the exact same problem. It happend when syncserver crashes. Try to rebuild your database and you will have to clean up your events and task manualy. I just spend one hour doing this.

It is unbeliveable Microsoft is not able to fix that problem which already occured in 2004 version... Like more than 5 year to fixe a bug?

I recently upgraded from Office 2004 to 2008, and now all of my
calendar events and tasks are duplicating. Email messages, contacts
and notes are not duplicating.

Entourage on Leopard has been plagued by severe syncing issues, some of
which Apple hasn't yet addressed. Even their MobileMe syncing has been
problematic.

Have a look here about how to troubleshoot syncing issues but keep in
mind that you may have to periodically deal with duplicates until
several issues are fixed:

Hope this helps!

Hello, As I said erlier, the problem with syncing is relatated to Microsoft Sync services.

I rebuiled my database yesterday, and today it crashes again. Here is the log of the crash which clearly show its MS Sync Services which bugs...

No I have to rebuild the database and again I will have duplicate. Thank you Microsoft fro waisting my time

which clearly show its MS Sync Services which bugs...

One user reported this fix:
<quote>
I has a similar problem that I found info about on the Apple message
boards.

What fixed it was disabling syncing everywhere, .mac and Entourage ...
Then tossing the SyncServices folder in ~/library/applicationsupport

Rebooting, emptying the trash and renabling syncing. First with .mac then
with Entourage...

Apparently something became corrupt in one of the backing store files and
was causing much pain.
</quote>

How to: Reset sync services and start fresh. (Warning this erases data!!!)

1) Turn OFF all sync services in Entourage preferences
2) Quit ALL Office applications (including Daemon - How to quit daemon)
3) Quit Safari, Address Book & iCal and all applications synching through
..Mac (Transmit, Yojimbo...)

4) Use Activity Monitor to quit Sync Services
5) Delete the contents of ~/Library/Application Support/SyncServices/

Optionally: if you want to replace all data in the system Address book and
iCal with Entourage data, delete all iCal & Address Book Data Files:
~/Application Support/iCal/*~/Application Support/AddressBook/*
~/Library/Caches/com.apple.iCal/*
~/Library/Caches/com.apple.AddressBook/*

6) Open the .Mac System preferences and make sure .Mac synching is enabled
(At this time I would skip this step)

7) Restart all applications that sync to .Mac (Safari, Address Book, iCal,
etc.... and Entourage).

8) Turn ON Sync Services in Entourage preferences.

I'm not responding to you. I'm responding to the original question. You
should start your own thread because your problem is not the same as the
first.

I can't tell if the problem is iSync or Entourage 2008 -- Apple will not accept any responsibility for addressing the problem, even though I have Apple Care. Using sync services with Entourage is unfortunately fairly
problematic. If you scan the forum there are numerous reports of
issues around this especially in the early part of last year when 08
was released.

In your case, since you upgraded to 08 from 04 and have used rebuild
(this has issues also) you might want to start with a new identity.
First, export your information as an RGE file. This will ensure your
identity isn't corrupt (hopefully). Make sure sync services is turned
off. Choose Entourage Switch Identity New and name your new identity.
In the new identity import your RGE file. If your existing identity
has a lot of rich data such as links, categories, saved searches etc
save this and use it as an archive. Before enabling sync serv follow
all the steps for cleaning sync serv as noted. You could try enabling
all modules initially first over writing the Apple apps then switching
to combine. To ensure reliable syncs just have one module enabled at a
time e.g. Calendar. If more than one module is enabled eventually
sync's start producing variable strange results which isn't too
predictable. If you talk to Microsoft's tech support they are now
saying they don't support handhelds, are working on the problem but
don't know when there will be a fix. Yes, Apple won't accept
responsibility for this. If you use the Apple apps without Entourage
you won't get sync errors generally.
