Entourage 2008 crashes when I quit

Hi everyone,

I have had the same problem for 2 days now.
I use Entourage to connect to a Hosted Exchange 2007 server, as well as check 3 IMAPS email accounts and 5 POP accounts.

Whenever I want to quit, there is a message asking to confirm because "a network operation is in progress". When I check the Progress bar, nothing seems to be hapenning at the moment.

If I confirm that I want to quit, then Entourage crashes 50% of the time.

I have rebuilt my database but this hasn't fixed the problem...

Second problem: messages with accented characters in the subject (as well as calendar events with accented characters) aren't sync'ed from my Exchange server.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

The Progress bar does not show all activity.

Check your Tools > Schedules. Do you have anything, such as "Empty Deleted
Items Folder" that is set to work on Quit? Try disabling those and see what
happens.

Also, let's get a clean quit in. Launch Entourage, choose Entourage > Work
Offline, and Quit.

Thanks for your feedback.

I have tried your suggestions but I still ave the same problem.

I have come to realize though that this problem seems to be happening only if I quit Entourage within 5 minutes after launching it.

If Entourage has been launched for more than 5 minutes (literally 5 minutes), then I can quit normally.

Interesting. Sounds like you should consider doing what I do -- launch
Entourage at startup and leave it running all day (even though it is a
memory hog). You can set your send and receive schedules to run less
frequently, if you don't want to be interrupted as often with new e-mail. (I
get e-mail every half hour and newsgroup updates every few hours.) Or you
can Work Offline (under the Entourage menu) during periods when you don't
want Entourage to interrupt you.

You can turn off the sounds in Notification preferences too. I use Rules to
play a sound to notify me of mail I want to read.

See this page for using custom sounds with Entourage. You can even create
your own sounds or use computer voices to announce your mail. For example,
you could have the AppleScript say ³Mail from Dad².

I've just noticed that everytime I restart my MacBook, I find a MerpAD sync services file in my trashcan.

Thank you for your reply Carol.

I have installed SP1 and deleted all office preferences files. I have resorted to waiting 5 minutes after launching Entourage before quitting and it seems the issue has stopped presenting itself.

I am however still having a problem with emails containing accented characters not syncing from Exchange 2007. Same thing for calendar entries with accented characters. This renders Exchange & Entourage useless for me as I live in France and keep receiving emails with accented characters.

I couldn't reproduce the problem that you saw on receiving email in Entourage
with Exchange 2007 server if email has accented characters in the subject.

Can you contact me via email? I would like to investigate this.

Thanks

As of last week, the issue with accented characters seems to be solved (in emails and calendar entries!)

I haven't changed the configuration of my MacBook. This issue was still there after the Office 2007 SP1 update.

I believe my hosted exchange service (123Together.com) might have found a fix or applied a patch/update as things started to work after their server went offline for maintenance...

Thank you anyway for your reply!

I can finally use Entourage on my MacBook!
