Entourage 2008 Crashing on Preferences

Hi,

I have read all the previous postings about this topic, and I have through all of the same tests that have been suggested, but the problem still persists. With me and many others when you google the internet on this one.

I strongly believe that there must be some small corrupt "preference" file somewhere on the BSD/OSX level that causes this one.

Are there any specific location you can recommend that we can have a look at fm the "console" to see of there is a problem with "a preference config file".

What is the |preference file" Entourage "updates" when we could have made changes?

You didn't explain your problem. Putting something brief in the subject line
is not adequate.

If your problem is Entourage crashes when selecting preferences, then you
will need to re-install.

Hi Diane,

I have the same problem as many others, that Entourage crashes when I want I hit preferences.
I have reinstalled MS Office 2008 twice! already
cleared out everithing that was even remotely related to the MS office SW Incl MS Userdata files and folders. The problem still stays.. ( like with many others.)

My systesm has sent numerous error-reports back to MS... So I seem to have exhausted all ways to get this resolved.

Any other, more indepth ideas or suggestions?

Some preferences are actually in the database and rebuilding does not seem
to fix these issues. Test by creating a new Identity in Entourage. If the
problem goes away, you'll need to manually move your data into the new
Identity.

Also...did you test in a new User in a new Identity?

Go to System Preferences --> Create a New User in Accounts. Switch to the
New User by logging out/in or use Fast User Switching. Test in a new blank
Identity.

If this works, you can bring over your current Identity via the Shared
folder and test in the new User.

I did set up a new identity , and even there the preferences crashed....

Can you pls tell me which file ( and filepath) Entourage saves it user preferences to?
Maybe if I remove that one and de a new office install, it might work.

I have no clue. Testing preferences can be a lengthy process. The problem
could end up being a non Microsoft preference too.

Hi Diane,

no I have not made a new user on my MAC. What I will do is the following.

I have a new MAC ordered, on which I should be able to do a clean install And take things from there.
Then I will rebuild this one with SnowLeopard from scratch , so I do not have to deal with "old legacy problems" nor waste your time ;-)

Hi Diane,

as FYI. I have done a fresh install of Snow Leopard ( after wiping my disk) on my mac. And the problem disappeared. So opening "preferences" in Entourage does not crash the app. anymore. I am ok now
