Entourage 2008 freezes during Exchange sync

Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: intel
Email Client: Exchange

I've confirmed with my IT department that all of my settings for connecting to the Exchange server are correct.

When I start up Entourage 2008 it starts to sync, it will download a few messages and then simply freeze. In the progress window, it looks like it has 4 threads running. One folder in particular, Sent Items, has 3000+ item. Even if this is the issue, it should NOT be the issue as this folder works fine on Windows, even on a fresh machine downloading all the mail for the first time.

I have a new 2008 MacBook Pro 2.5Ghz

Entourage and Outlook connect to Exchange via different methods and are
sensitive to different problems. You may still have a problem message in
your Sent Items folder.

If you haven't already, select Entourage --> Switch Identity... and see
if the problem still occurs. If so, then you most likely have a problem
message.

Watch your Sent Items folder to see when the problem happens. Pay
attention to the message count to give you an idea of how far in your
list you need to look. Then use Outlook Web Access (OWA) to locate and
delete the problem message. It will most likely be obvious such as a
foreign language message or one with an unusual attachment.

Hope this helps!

I fixed my issue by setting the message download limit size to 5 or 10k. It must have prevented it from downloading the problem part of the message or problem attachment. At this point, since it is working, I'm not sure if I want to try the "Switch Identity" solution. :)

Also, IMHO, there should not be such a thing as a problem message. The software or the server should handle the situation and continue and not lock up the system.

That does sound like a corrupt message. Just keep in mind that by
limiting the size of the message you haven't really made the problem go
away.

I guess in a perfect world there would be no problem messages. ;-)
