Entourage 2008 Hangs on Opening

A recurring problem on our new Mac laptop is that Entourage 2008 hangs
when opening during the first send/receive. Forced quit is the only
way to proceed. I have reinstalled the program and updated to the
latest release (I recall that it was 12.1.2 although I cannot verify
it in Entourage). Have checked the integrity of the database and
rebuilt it successfully. Also have replaced the MS User Data Folder
with a previously working identity - all to no avail. Microsoft is
very slow to respond via email (although they ultimately do) but in
the meantime Entourage does not work. Help is appreciated for this new
Mac user!

Are you saying you have selected to run the Send & Receive schedule when
Entourage launches? Please explain exactly.

I never select the option "At startup." I like to let Entourage open then I
select command-K to run the schedule. After that the repeating schedule I
have set kicks in.

Thanks for responding. I cannot get into Entourage to change anything
since it immediately hangs during the first send/receive after being
opened. I suspect a problem with the database but all the verify/
rebuild commands do not seem to change anything. Thanks for your help
- in advance!

Hold down the shift key when launching Entourage. This disables schedules
from launching at startup. This will let you enter Entourage and delete the
offending message in your Outbox.

FWIW, I run Send and Receive "At Startup" without difficulty. I appreciate
your tip about starting up with the shift key, however, just in case I do
get a message that forces Entourage to hang.
