Entourage 2008 is freaking driving me crazy

U

Here's my setup.

Macbook Pro 2.2Ghz with 4GB of RAM.
Running Leopard 10.5.6, and Entourage 2008 with all the latest
patches.
I am connecting to an Exchange 2007 SP1 server with all the latest
patches

Entourage is incredibly slow, and constantly throws up the spinning
circles.
This happens when I
1.) Check for new mail.
2.) Reply to a message.
3.) Start typing any text, and again if I don't type for 10 seconds or
so. This is the part that is just driving me bonkers.
4.) Open any attachment, regardless of size.

I have about 70,000 messages in various folders in my exchange
account. Corporate policy requires that they stay on the server. I
also have a Windows Machine in a VM, and if I fire up Outlook 2007 in
the VM, it has no issues. (I never try to use both outlook and
entourage at the same time.) I don't have any sync services enabled.
I have tried emptying the cache, and rebuilding all the folders.
Still the problem persists. All of my other Mac apps work
flawlessly.

Please help.

This is not common or acceptable. Because you have so many messages it's
possible that Entourage has not completed the sync. See this article and let
us know if that helps.

Optimize Entourage to better work with Exchange

In addition, do a search on this page for "slow." You'll find several tips
to help, but I suspect the problem is the number of messages that need to be
synced first.
