Entourage 2008 keeps crashing

I have just installed Office:mac 2008 and Leopard and the update to 10.5.2
I am finding that Entourage keeps quitting and then when I relaunch the program it shows in the top left tool bar but the program remains hidden from view. The only way to rectify the problem and get Entourage to launch is to restart the mac. Most annoying after the 3rd time today. Anybody any clues please?

It could be a font cache issue.
You might want to use an application like Onyx to clear all font cache
(reboot right afterwards),

Testing in a new User will quickly tell you if the problem is system wide or
if it¹s your User¹s folder that contains the problem.

Go to System Preferences --> Create a New User in Accounts. Switch to the
New User by logging out/in or use Fast User Switching. Test Office there.

Let me know what you find.

Hi Diane & Corentin

I seem to have isolated the problem to Time Machine and .mac sync. When these are switched on they cause Entourage to shut down when they run. Once they have finished it is possible to restart Entourage but the problem is that, although the program is shown as running in the toolbar at the top left, it is not being seen on screen. It is as if it is hidden. I have tried Window - Bring to Front, but this makes no difference. The only way to restore a working Entourage is to reboot. In the meantime I have switched off auto Time Machine and .mac sync

Thanks

Hmmmm, how much RAM do you have? What type of internet connection? Cable,
dialup, ISDN, wireless?

If you don't know where to look, click on the Apple in the top left corner.
About this Mac will tell you the info on Memory.

I have now isolated the problem to .mac sync. When this runs it closes the Entourage window but leaves the program running. I am able to close Entourage from the top menu bar, but the only way to get the user interface back is to restart the machine. Very annoying as this happens once a day when .mac sync's. Any further ideas?

Try using Command tab and select Entourage.

Hi Diane

Thanks for trying to sort this out, but I am afraid the Command Tab does not work either. The strange thing is that I can shut Entourage down from Quit Entourage in the top left tool bar, but when I restart, although it is showing back in the top toolbar as being open, the user interface is not visible. Not sure what to try next.

Thanks

Sometimes I have to select it a couple of times using command Tab. I would
look for a conflict. Log out/in with Shift key held down to disable your
startup items. See if the problem goes away.

I have also been experiencing this problem of Entourage not becoming active when selected (either by Command-Tab, selecting the dock icon, etc.). The differences with me and this poster are 1) i don't get the Entourage top menu at all and 2) I don't use .mac sync and don't have it enabled. The unfortunately similarity with the original post is that i also have to restart.

Hi Diane

I have now turned off all applications (My Day. Entourage & Skype) from opening upon login and this appears to have cured the problem. Not sure what the conflict is but let's hope it stays away.

Thanks for your help
